The film

Count of Three is an intimate science-fiction drama about two childhood friends separated by an unstoppable advancing wall. Everything it passes through is destroyed. The only way to survive is to enter it, and live on inside an artificial reality that offers safety, comfort and seemingly perfect lives.

Most people eventually choose it. Moss does not. After losing his parents to the wall, and later his closest friend Eli, he spends decades travelling ahead of its advance. When it finally reaches the end of the world, Eli comes out of it.

The approach

AI builds a world and a scale that would ordinarily demand an enormous physical production. The intention is the opposite of spectacle for its own sake: a coherent cinematic language around memory, physical reality and impermanence, with two people at its centre.

The film was rebuilt from the ground up for the festival, rethinking the childhood, environments, character design, structure and visual language from everything the first version taught.

“The world may be enormous. The story is not.”
